Earthday update

The mayor phoned yesterday – he wasn’t able to speak with the “angry young farmer”, however, he came by to see if the stakes had been removed, they hadn’t been. The other young farmer, who owns the land to the right in the photo, was there working – so he spoke with him since the other thirty two trees border his property. Great news – this farmer is going to plant trees all along the crest of the embankment along the roadside which borders his field. I guess my angry friend phoned him – which he said he would, believing he too would be against letting the trees grow – evidently he isn’t.
Maybe we’ll have trees on both sides after all.
I’m not alone in the tree/talus (embankment) debate – in my search for a translation and an image for “talus”, I came across some interesting sites :
Où l’épareuse passe, le talus trépasse…
and another blog Bouriane verte from a link in the one above
And, a little piece of news from my friends at Arbes et Paysages Tarnaise, who supplied the 4000 hedging plants we planted three years ago for the backbone of our labyrinth – the Mairie of Dourgne, a neighboring commune, has agreed to let the old hedges along the roadside grow back! what a good example for other communes.
